Hollywood star Cate Blanchett reveals creative method of getting a free drink in an Irish pub

Australian star Cate Blanchett has revealed that she learned how to get free pints after visiting an Irish pub.

The two-time Oscar winning star said that she discovered the trick at an old Irish pub near where she grew up.

Blanchett is currently promoting her latest movie, The House With A Clock In Its Walls, which sees her star alongside funnyman Jack Black.

It is a family adventure film, which sees Blanchett take a break from the more serious roles, that have seen her achieve so much success, and play a friendly witch.

As Blanchett and Black spoke to Joe.ie about their upcoming movie, the conversation moved on to whether the pair had spent time in Ireland.

Black spoke first and told a story of when his band Tenacious D supported Metallica in Dublin before sitting down to enjoy the best Guinness he had ever drank.

Blanchett then revealed her ingenious method of getting free drinks.

It involved an Irish pub where she grew up, a little bit of musical talent and plenty of the ‘gift of the gab’.
