Best man gets band to help with his speech

A pair of newlyweds were given a great surprise on their wedding day when the groom’s brother and best man decided to sing his speech – with a little help from his friends.

Alan Gielty and Maeve Clancy of Achill were sat at the top table at their wedding reception looking every inch the happy couple. The bride looked beautiful in her dress and her new husband looked at her adoringly.

Their perfect day took an unexpected twist when Alan’s brother Diarmuid stood up to deliver his best man speech. He told the roomful of guests that those that know him best would know that he is more comfortable with a fiddle in his hand than a microphone.

He then left the top table and walked out of the room, telling the confused guests to “talk amongst yourselves for a minute”.

Diarmuid then returned with his mandolin and a woman carrying a harp who he introduced as “the very talented Alesha Kelly”.

He then goes ahead and delivers his speech in the form of song, including several comical lines about growing up with his brother.

Diarmuid has the crowd in stitches as he confidently performs and pauses to milk the applause.

When the song comes to an end Diarmuid has one more surprise in store for his brother and new sister-in-law.
