Take a look at this beautiful countryside cottage in Co Donegal which was recently put on the market for €245,000.

The charming building and stunning surroundings would make it a perfect getaway for anyone looking to move away from the big city.

Violet Cottage is a thatched bungalow that was built in the late 1700s – although the inside has been modernised thanks to a refurbishment in 2004.

The cottage is located in Behy, near Ballyshannon, Co Donegal. It is 12 miles from Donegal and just 3.6 miles from Ballyshannon Town.

While Violet cottage has been modernised, both the exterior and interior have retained their charm.

There are open fireplaces in the living room, both bedrooms and even in one of the large bathrooms.

Outside, the cottage is painted white with red outlines around the windows and with a thatched roof.

The property includes a large private garden with view of Behy River from patio.

There are some wonderful forest walking trails with a few minutes of the cottage, as well as Rossnowlagh Beach and Murvagh Golf Links -which are within a 10 minute drive.

It is listed on, where the listing reads: “The cottage was tastefully refurbished in 2004 to modern day requirements yet it retains many of it’s original features and character.”

Donegal is one of Ireland’s many beauty spots and Donegal Airport was actually named the most scenic in the world thanks to the rugged mountains and beautiful coastline.

That view was actually captured on video by a US businessman as his plane was landing in Donegal.

A daredevil cameraman created a stunning video of the Donegal coastline by rowing his kayak from the mainland to the Owey Islands before heading further out to the Stag Rocks.

Donegal is also a great starting pint for anyone who wants to take on the stunning Wild Atlantic Way – which is the world’s longest signposted coastal drive.
