Hal Roach was a hugely popular Irish comedian. He worked at a top Dublin hotel and for 26 years he was the star of the in-house evening entertainment.
Roach was particularly popular with American tourists, as many of his jokes were based on the traditional Irish stereotypes, and the romance of the country.
He was known as the ‘King of Blarney’, and his catchphrase, which he used several times during each of his shows, was: “That’s a good one, write it down.”
Roach died in 2012, but left a legacy as one of the most likeable and respected performers of his generation.
