A video from Irish comedy group Republic of Telly has gone back in time to look at the things people used to say in the 1980s, that they would never say now.
It was only 30 years ago, but it seems like several lifetimes away from the modern world of the internet, iPhones, hologram concerts and space tourism. While we are forever worrying about broadband connection, in the ’80s they were more concerned with changing the TV channel without moving from their seat.
The hilarious video shows an innocent but politically incorrect Irish public talking to each other about seeing an ‘Indian fella’ or a ‘gay lad’. The men can’t believe that a woman has started working in the office.
Bad habits such as drinking and smoking in front of the kids were not the taboo they are today and parental discipline came from a wooden spoon.
There are plenty of 80’s cultural references and examples of how far we have come in a short space of time.
