New year brings growth turnaround in property market

The property market grew in the first quarter of the year, new figures indicate. After a decline in prices toward the end of 2015, the new year has brought renewed growth, according to the survey from MyHome.ie in association with economists from the Davy Group.

Memorial to victims of 1916 Easter Rising unveiled in Glasnevin cemetery

A list of all those who died in the 1916 Easter Rising, including rebellion leaders and British soldiers, has been unveiled in Glasnevin cemetery in Dublin. Almost 500 people were killed in the uprising, the majority of them – 268 – were civilians caught up in the violence.

Irish economic growth expected to exceed forecasts

Ireland’s economy will grow more this year than previously expected, the Central Bank has said. Latest official figures predict the value of all goods and services in the country – known as gross domestic product (GDP) – will rise by 5.1% during 2016.

Irishman stabbed to death in Sydney may have been targeted by date's ex-lover

An Irishman killed in a frenzied stabbing at a Sydney restaurant may have been the victim of his date’s ex-lover. Named locally as Keith Collins, the 53-year-old was stabbed repeatedly while eating dinner at the Kang Nam BBQ restaurant in the Hornsby Westfield Shopping Centre at about 9.30pm on Wednesday.

Property prices are up 8% in the last year, official figures have revealed. While the national picture showed little or no movement in values in February, demand for homes outside Dublin has really driven the growth in the market in the previous 12 months.
