Have you seen this fantastic YouTube video of a little girl from Ireland telling the story of St Patrick? She does it in the most charming and delightful way.
The young lady narrates the video but doesn’t appear in it, as the whole thing has been animated.
The video begins with a scene of a class full of children, and the teacher asking them who wants to tell the story of St Patrick.
All of the children shout out that they want to tell the story, but the teacher points out that not everyone can tell it.
She then selects a young girl named Mary to tell the story.
Mary begins in France with St Patrick being taken and put on a ship before sailing to Ireland and being sold.
She does a brilliant job of recounting the legend of St Patrick and the rest of her classmates sit there quietly listening.
The video is in the form of a cartoon, with animations for St Patrick, Mary and all the key characters from the story.
The recording of Mary speaking was actually recorded in the 1960s, as part of the Brown Bags Films series in which Irish children would tell stories from the bible.
Well done to the animators behind the Give Up Yer Aul Sins series. The videos give new life to the recordings and make them appealing once again in the internet age.
