Irish school rocks YouTube with translated pop songs

Irish students rock YouTube

The language school that teaches its students to speak Irish by translating pop songs and singing them is going form strength to strength.

Ireland Calling first brought Coláiste Lurgan and their teaching methods to your attention in the summer after they blazed their way through the internet with their brilliant music videos.

Irish school rocks YouTube with translated pop songs

Since then, the Galway school has accumulated well over a million views of their numerous YouTube videos.

The songs were originally translated into Irish by tutors to provide a fun way to end the lessons as the students can all take part in a sing song of a current pop song.

The school decided to upload the videos on to YouTube and the response was overwhelming, although it isn’t surprising given the professional and entertaining final edits.

Now the school has developed a cult online following and are keeping their public happy with more and more Irish-sang pop songs.

The latest additions to the Coláiste Lurgan collection include a fantastic copycat video of Robin Thicke’s global smash hit Blurred Lines, the Irish versions of Sam Smith’s global megahit Stay With Me and Bastille’s Pompeii.

As well as that, the students show they can rap in Irish just as well as they can sing with their own version of Macklemore and Lewis’ party track Can’t Hold Us.

They are also skilled musicians as they prove with a great acoustic version of Bob Dylan’s classic Wagon Wheel.

Absolutely brilliant! Keep them coming Coláiste Lurgan.
