The Irish castle where many actors from Hollywood classic The Quiet Man stayed during filming has undergone a €47m makeover and is set to be re-opened by the Taoiseach this week.
Ashford Castle is a stunning hotel in Cong, Co Mayo. It was first built in the 13th century and is steeped in Irish history.

Maureen O’Hara has said in the past that the beautiful countryside and scenery in Cong was the real star of the film.
Ashford Castle has always been an important property in Ireland. In the 19th century it was bought by the Guinness family. They owned it for nearly one hundred years before it was sold to be transformed into a luxury hotel.
It has since been host to world leaders including US President Ronald Reagan.
Other global stars such as John Lennon, Oscar Wilde and Brad Pitt have taken time out at Ashford to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Co Mayo countryside.
Ashford Castle has now been restored to its former glory, after the South African company, Red Carnation Hotels decided to renovate the ancient property.
It has taken two years and nearly €50m but Ashford Castle is once again amongst the most luxurious and desirable hotels in the world.
The 350-acre resort will be officially re-opened by Taoiseach Enda Kenny at a ceremony this Friday.
