The Irish Civil War is one of the most significant events in the country’s history. It saw the IRA split into two. Arthur Griffiths, Michael Collins and their followers forming the Irish Free State government, and the anti-treaty IRA led by Éamon de Valera and Liam Lynch took up arms and rebelled against them.
The Madness from Within is a documentary investigating the events and characters involved in the War. It is presented by RTÉ journalist Bryan Dobson.
Part Five uncovers the pain and suffering that went on within Irish families, with many being split by the War. The sister of anti-treaty soldier Brian MacNeill is interviewed and explains how her brother was killed by Free State troops. Two other brothers in the family were fighting against the anti-treaty for the Free State Army.
