As we know an apple a day keeps the doctor away.
But what if you like your apple pre-sliced but are fed up of preparing it in the morning only to find it has gone brown by the time you are ready for your mid-morning snack?
If fresh apple slices are a must, there is a YouTube video that could interest you from Grant Thompson ‘The King of Random’.

In the video the King turns an apple into a ‘Healthy snack pack’ for people who need to eat on the go.
Instead of cutting the apple through the centre as most people would intuitively do, he cuts it slightly off centre.
Within four cuts, he has sliced the apple into nine easy to manage segments. He then puts an elastic band around the pieces to hold them in place.
This means that the apple is sliced and ready to eat but also helps to ensure that the segments stay fresh for longer.
Rather than going brown within minutes, Thompson said that the pieces would last for around three hours – perfect for a healthy lunch box.
He added: “I have also experimented with using lemon juice on apple slices. The idea is that the citric acid in the lemon juice prevents the fruit from oxidizing. That is true! In my experiments I had apple slices last up to 8.5 hours without turning brown at all. They may have gone even longer than that, but I ate them.”
