Terminally ill father films boxing video for baby daughter

An Irish father who was diagnosed with terminal cancer has made an emotional and inspiring video for his baby daughter to watch many years from now.
Darren Mullery, from Tralee, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer while his wife was pregnant with his daughter. The cancer was at an advanced stage and there was little the doctors could do for him.

He said: “I made a conscious decision this was not going to beat me. I just had too much to live for.”
He says the day his daughter Noelle was born was the happiest of his life. He is now in hospital a lot of the time but when he is home he spends as much time as possible with Noelle and his wife Danielle.
He said: “My whole outlook on life changed and I started trying to look for the positive in every situation. Sometimes it’s hard and I can be a pig to live with but Noelle is my inspiration and my reason to get out of bed every day.”
Darren is a member of the Tralee Musical Theatre Society and they have helped him to make a video for his daughter.
It features the song ‘Eye of the Tiger’ and sees Darren in a boxing ring as he literally ‘fights’ cancer. The boxing scenes are interspersed with loving family scenes between Darren, Danielle and Noelle.
Darren wanted to make the video for Noelle to show how hard he fought cancer so he could spend as much time with her as possible.
His friend Rebecca Roche first suggested the idea to him and the video was directed by Oliver Hurley and shot Tom Hannafin.
