An Irish barber has become a celebrity in his local town and a viral sensation online thanks to his skills in cutting human’s hair with sheep shears.
Paul McGann has been cutting the hair of the people of Kildare for more than 30 years.
In that time, he has become expert in his trade, so much so that when one of his customers joked that he wouldn’t be able to cut hair using sheep shears, he took up the challenge.
He told the Irish Mirror: “Some of my customers are sheep farmers. They gave me an old shears one day and jokingly said ‘I bet you can’t cut hair with that’.
“I told them I could cut hair with anything. I used the old shears and it worked, so they then brought me in two new shears and I’ve been using them ever since.
“We’ve done some research on it and I think I’m the only person in the world doing it. There isn’t anyone else out there at the same thing so the interest has just been crazy.
“Whatever way it cuts the hair it does put a little bit of a nicer finish on it sometimes.”
Those who know Paul will not be surprised to hear of his success with the shears.
He is widely respected in the town and the barber’s community. With more than 30 years’ experience, he can legitimately claim the title of ‘Grand Master Barber’, which is the name of his shop.
As well as cutting hair himself, Paul also offers training and guidance to other barbers on everything from honing their own skills, choosing a good location to set up a new shop, to setting an example to staff and have them working the way you want.
A video of Paul working with the shears was posted online and the reaction has been incredible.
It is approaching a million views online and people all over the world are in awe of the skills Paul is displaying.
He said: “It’s absolutely crazy. It has just gone mad online.
“We’ve lost count with the amount of views and shares online. It has gone into the millions.
“Magazines from the US have been in touch and lots of radio stations.
“There’s a guy flying from Arizona. He arrived into Ireland on Friday morning. He’s going to get a haircut and then fly back on Sunday. The attention has just been crazy.
“Every shop I go into in the village, there are people joking asking me for autographs.”
