'Quadfather' shares his joy of newborns on Facebook

A Limerick man has declared he will now be known as the ‘Quadfather’ after his wife gave birth to quadruplets on Tuesday.

Picture taken from FacebookGrace Slattery was rushed to Dublin hospital after her waters broke on Tuesday, and made the call to her husband to get back from work to be with her.
James, or the Quadfather, was working more than 100 miles away in Limerick, and had to be given a Garda escort to the hospital. He arrived to find his wife sat on the bed straightening her hair as she patiently waited for her labour to begin.
By mid-afternoon, the happy couple had four new additions to their family; three new daughters, Amelia Helen, Mollie Rose, Lily Grace May and last out was son Lucas James.
Mother and babies are all doing fine and James has taken to Facebook to share his joy with the world. He posted numerous pictures taken after the births, including one of him holding each newborn just minutes after they were born.
The proud father was interviewed by Ray D’Arcy on Irish radio and relived his frantic race to get to the hospital in time: “I got a phone call at half 12 from my wife in the Rotunda (Dublin hospital). Grace told me, ‘You’re not going to make it here on time. You need to get on to the Gardas and see if you can get an escort up’. I thought she was away with the birds, I didn’t think it would happen at all. But they literally gave us a lift all the way up to the Rotunda and I ran in the door and just made it in time.”
He then joked that he now wants to be known as the “Quadfather”. D’Arcy asked him how he will manage with four newborn babies to look after to which he replied: “I’m still trying to figure that one out myself.”
Grace has also been on Facebook to share her happiness with the world, posting: “Within four minutes at six minutes to four I gave birth to four babies, Amelia Helen – 4lbs 3oz, Mollie Rose – 2lbs15oz, Lucas James – 3lbs10oz and Lily Grace May – 3lbz4oz.
“All came out kicking and screaming and all are doing well at the moment…. Thanks for all yer good wishes and keep praying for babies xxxx. Our family of 3 is now a family of 7!!! Amazing.”
James revealed on radio that the new parents will be leaning on friends and family to help out with the quads, and thanked them for all their support so far, revealing their neighbours have been “painting the babies’ rooms, building units, and helping us out.”
