Irish teenagers create original anti-smoking video

Irish teenagers create brilliant anti-smoking video that’s inspired by horror genre

A group of Irish teenagers have made an anti-smoking video that really will send a shiver down your spine.
That is because they have borrowed heavily from the horror genre to create ‘Passive Nightmares’ – one of the most original anti-smoking videos we have ever seen.
The video was made by Enniscorthy Youthreach as part of the X-Hale Youth Awards 2015.

It features a teenage girl whose friends keep offering her a cigarette. She keeps refusing but it begins to get her down.
She ends up living out her own personal horror film as she encounters a range of cigarette related monsters and villains.
For decades people have found it virtually impossible to persuade the younger generation that it isn’t a good idea to take up smoking. Teenagers know when they are being lectured to and many don’t want to take the advice.
Perhaps they don’t believe that they will become addicted or that the health problems they will end up causing seem so far into the future that they are not of much concern.
This video, which is uploaded on the Irish Cancer Society YouTube channel, shows that organisations are beginning to look at different ways of getting their anti-smoking message across.
