Irish girl’s beautiful rendition of Somewhere Over The Rainbow
The ten-year-old Irish girl with the voice of an angel has uploaded her first video of 2016 – and it has already been viewed thousands of times in the first couple of days.
Ruby O’Kelly first came to prominence in the winter of 2015 when a video of her singing the classic Christmas song ‘Walking in the Air’ went viral.
She had appeared on stage at the Solstice Arts Centre in Navan. Her performance delighted the audience and the recording was picked up by several radio stations. The video of her performance went viral – you can see it here.
Now Ruby has uploaded a new video, of her singing another classic song – Somewhere Over the Rainbow from the 1939 movie ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
This time Ruby isn’t on stage and has no grand production backing her up. She is just at home sat in her front room – but she sounds as good as ever.
Ruby sings the classic song without any backing music and lets her voice take centre stage. It is a brave move given the huge chorus of the song but Ruby proves to be more than up to the task.
The video was uploaded by her father and has been viewed thousands of times in a matter of days.
Ruby’s mother Sharon said: “It seems to relate to a lot of girls out there. I have got messages to say it was sang at funerals and special occasions and Ruby has brought them to tears with her version.”
There are exciting times ahead for Ruby. She has already appeared in panto at the Olympia Theatre and has also been cast for a new 1916 special on RTÉ.
